Agreement on conservation documentation of the former commandant office of the death camp in Bełżec
The State Museum at Majdanek and Association Bildungswerk Stanislaw Hantz e.V. from Germany have signed an agreement on funding work related to drawing up conservation documentation of the buildings used during World War II by the commandant office of the German Nazi death camp in Bełżec.
This month the Association will procure construction and conservation expertise as well as detailed inventory of the buildings and will cover its costs. The documentation will allow to determine technical condition of the real estate and the scope of indispensable conservation work.
The State Museum at Majdanek took over the estate from Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A. [Polish State Railways] by the end of 2015. In the future, according to the preliminary plan, the building of the former commandant’s office will house an educational base of the Museum – Memorial Site in Bełżec, a branch of the State Museum at Majdanek.
