On October 21st, 2014, the youth from matura classes of the Secondary School No. 2 in Lubartów participated in the lesson that aimed at learning about the fate and experiences of former Majdanek prisoners. The programme took place in the modernized Visitor Service Centre where there are up-to-date classrooms equiped with appliances suitable for educational projects using interactive methods simultaneously for two groups.

One group of students participated in the museum lesson “But the part of our heart remained there, at Majdanek. Camp reality in the diary of Jadwiga Ankiewicz.” They familiarized themselves with excerpts of the diary that had been illegally written for a few months by the minor camp prisoner. Later on, they visited the commemoration sites, outdoor exposition and “The Prisoners of Majdanek” exhibition. The second group participated in the museum lesson entitled “Youth, trauma, values. Biography walk with Danuta Brzosko-Mędryk” that is a new educational proposition for upper-secondary students. These classes make students engaged and combine a few levels of narration: listening and watching accounts by the witness to history recorded on the videotape, reading memories written in the literary form and discovering the authentic historical place. Individual fates of the survivor are put in wider historical context, and camp story concerns particular events that the teenage Polish girl participated in. The biography walk devoted to Danuta Brzosko-Mędryk not only brings us closer to important historical aspects of Majdanek camp, but also reveals to today’s generation the peer world of emotions and ethical values of the girl who was full of dreams.
