Celebration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day
February 1, the youth from the Primary School No. 1 of Henryk Sienkiewicz in Przemyśl and School-nursery complex of Pope John Paul II in Bełżec paid respect to the victims of the Holocaust.
In the Museum and Memorial Site in Bełżec, celebrations took place as a part of the First Commemoration International Holocaust Remembrance Day in the Lublin region. Jarosław Stawiarski, the Marshall of the Lubelskie Voivodeship, was the patron of the celebration. Students from the Primary School No. 1 in Przemyśl presented, in the form of a kamishibai theatre, the story of Stefania Podgórska – Righteous Among the Nations from Przemyśl, who saved 13 Jews during the German occupation. Among the rescued was Maks Diamant, who escaped in November 1942, from a transport going to the German Nazi death camp in Bełżec. In 1942, around 15-16 thousand Jews were transported from the Przemyśl ghetto to Bełżec.
At the end of the ceremony, wreaths were laid and candles were lit in the Ohel Niche.
