On June 13 and 14, the Museum and Memorial Site in Bełżec organized ceremonies as part of the celebrations of the National Day of Remembrance of the Victims of German Nazi Concentration and Death Camps.

On June 13, in the reading room of the Municipal Public Library in Tomaszów Lubelski members of the Tomaszów Regional Society of Dr. Janusz Peter, members of the Discussion Book Club, students of the University of the Third Age and the residents of Tomaszów and the surrounding area had the opportunity to listen a lecture “Holocaust Survivors from the Bełżec camp”.

On June 14, high school students from Krakow and Torun took part in a guided tour of the former death camp in Bełżec. In the next part of the ceremony, the young people went to Nisha Ohel, where, in tribute to the victims, they read the names of those murdered during the Holocaust and lit candles.

Also on June 14, the head of MMPB was a guest of the Catholic Radio Zamość, where he talked about the circumstances of the establishment of the National Remembrance Day for Victims of the Nazi German Concentration and Extermination Camps. This day was established through the decision of the Polish Sejm in 2006. It commemorates the first transport of Poles to the Nazi German Auschwitz concentration camp. 728 people from the prison in Tarnów were deported there by Nazi Germans on 14 June 1940. In this group, there were soldiers of the September Campaign, members of underground independence organizations, students of gymnasia, students and a small group of Polish Jews. This date is considered to be the beginning of functioning of the camp. He also talked about the history and functioning of the death camp in Bełżec and about the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Museum and Memorial Site in Bełżec.
