What happened during the German occupation of the Lublin Region in 1939-1944? What role played the Majdanek concentration camp in the German policy of persecuting the Poles and Jews? How did the Majdanek prisoners put up resistance against the Nazi terror? What were the perpetrators’ motives? These are some of questions which pupils from the Josef Albers Gymnasium in Bottrop, Germany, tried to answer during historical workshops organized at the State Museum at Majdanek on February 11-13, 2014.

The programme included visiting the grounds of the former camp and open-air exhibition. The pupils had also chance to deepen their knowledge on chosen aspects concerning the Majdanek camp operating. Independent team-work was based on reading and analysing various source texts – academic books for the general public, accounts by former prisoners, and archival documents. Presentation of team-work effects finished the workshops.
