Starting from this weekend, a new open-air exhibition will be presented at the Museum of the Former Death Camp in Sobibór. It is devoted to the history of the German death camp which was constructed in the Sobibór woods in 1942. The opening of the exhibition is part of the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the camp prisoners’ revolt. The ceremony, organized by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage,is held in Sobibór on October 14, 2013.

The exhibition consists of 17 charts depicting the origins of the camp and the most important issues concerning its existence, including deportations, mechanisms of extermination, and plunder of property. One of the charts documents the prisoners’ revolt of October 14, 1943. The post-war history of the site is also mentioned, as well as fates of the perpetrators and the survivors. Apart from that the exhibition presents many archival photos and documents, and objects found on the grounds of the former camp during the excavations.
