Historical practice is one of active forms of extracurricular historical education offered by the State Museum at Majdanek. Such classes are based on discovering history by means of intellectual and emotional learning at an authentic historical site. Such a traineeship was participated by students from the Gesamtschule in Waltrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, on February 10-20, 2014.

During their stay in Lublin, the pupils had a chance to learn the history of the German occupation in the Lublin Region and concentration camp at Majdanek – mainly based on various historical sources, academic books for the general public and accounts by the imprisoned. They worked also on chosen topics concerning history of the camp and other issues related with the Nazi dictatorship. The aim of the traineeship for each student was to write a thesis concerning a given topic. Students’ knowledge was enriched after a meeting with Zdzisław Badio – a former Majdanek prisoner.
