Historical workshops for students of the Jagiellonian University
On February 13, workshops for youth of the Jagiellonian University in Cracow took place at the Museum and Memorial Site in Bełżec.
As part of the preparations for the workshops, students learned about the history of the German Nazi extermination camp in Bełżec - they were shown around the historical exhibition and the area of commemoration. In the second part of the educational visit, students took part in the workshop entitled: ‘The Extermination of Jews from Kolomyia in the accounts of victims and perpetrators.’ As part of introduction, the participants learned about the history of the extermination of Jews from Kolomyia, presented on the basis of the Power Point presentation. In the next phase, students, which were divided into groups, worked on source texts containing historical witnesses' accounts. During the classes, they compared the deportation action from Kolomyia and the transport of Jews to the extermination camp in Bełżec from the perspective of Jewish victims and German perpetrators. The culmination of the work of all the teams was to share the knowledge acquired by the participants and their own reflections on the content of the accounts.
