History that provokes questions

View photos

March 15-19, 2015, the historical workshops took place at the Museum at Majdanek together with students of the Lower-Secondary School Bethel named after Friedrich von Bodelschwingh in Bielefeld and students from the High School No 5 in Lublin. The aim of the workshops was to explore the history of the German occupation in the Lublin region, especially at Majdanek concentration camp.

How did prisoners of different nationalities cope with the camp reality, how children were treated at the camp, what helped them survive, what were the motives of the brutal behaviour of the oppressors towards the prisoners? – these are some of the questions that students tried to answer during the educational classes. The participants of the project listened to the story of the witness, Stanisława Kruszewska, who as a child together with her parents and siblings was sent to the Majdanek camp in course of the dislocations in the Zamość region. The workshops in the authentic historical place let students discover the past on their own, broaden their historical perspective, become familiar with different types of the historical sources and find the way of commemorating the Nazi terror victims.
