View photos

As part of its social and political education programme, Österreichische Gewerkschaftsjugend, a Vienna organization for young trade union members, has been organizing study trips to memorial sites in Poland. The aim of the seminars is to visit historical sites relating to the Second World War and to commemorate victims of the Nazi Socialism. Among the museums visited each year by the Austrians, there is the State Museum at Majdanek.

The schedule of their visit of February 3 included learning about the history of KL Lublin, a lecture on the “Aktion Reinhardt” camps and a guided tour through the grounds of the former camp and museum open-air exhibition. The Austrians got familiar with the documents collected in the Museum Archives and related with such issues as: orders by the commandant’s office, prisoners’ personal files and private documents belonging to Jews from Vienna deported to the Lublin Region in the spring of 1942. The study trip was finished with visiting the Museum – Memorial Site in Bełżec.
