On April 19 – the 72nd anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising – the State Museum at Majdanek took part in the celebration of the Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust and for the Prevention of Crimes against Humanity.
A week before the anniversary of these events, students from Lublin, Junior High School no. 1, Junior High School no. 10, High School no. 9, and State School of Construction and Geodesy, took part in a number of lectures regarding the history of the Warsaw Ghetto and the fate of Jewish families who were transported to the concentration camp at Majdanek. In total, about 280 people participated in these lectures.
A meeting with Ludwik Brylant, held at the State Museum at Majdanek, was the focal point of the celebration of the Holocaust Remembrance Day.Ludwik Brylant was born in 1933 in Warsaw. He was resettled to the Warsaw Ghetto with his family in 1940, but he managed to escape. During the war he was hiding in the monastery in Turkowice. Ludwik Brylant shared his memories and experiences with the participants of that meeting as well as he answered the questions of young people.
All of the events, organized to celebrate the Holocaust Remembrance Day, were accompanied by an official symbol of the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising – daffodil. Such a flower symbolizes remembrance, respect and hope. This tradition is related to the figure of Marek Edelman, the last leader of the Jewish Fighting Organization. On each anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, he laid the bouquet of yellow flowers at the Ghetto Heroes Monument, and they were often daffodils.
