International Holocaust Remembrance Day
The German Nazi concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated on 27 January 1945. In recognition of that event, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed it as the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. It constitutes an opportunity to even more eagerly reflect on the tragic fate of Jews – victims of hatred murdered during World War II – as well as on the current situation of humanity in the 21st century.

Our institution encompasses free post-camp memorials: Majdanek, Bełżec, and Sobibór. Each of them is tied to the Holocaust history. Each of them fulfils the testament of the survivors in its own way.
On 27 January we will meet with the local community to describe the fates of the particular Holocaust survivors. By examining their difficult paths through ghettos and camps towards freedom we will jointly learn about their wartime experience. We will also light candles and lay wreaths at Majdanek’s Gate-Monument to honour all 6,000,000 of Jewish victims.
Commemorative ceremonies will also take place in our branches in Bełżec and Sobibór.
