On November 4, we organized in cooperation with the Lublin Philharmonic a symphonic concert “In Memory of the Holocaust Victims.” The unique concert closed the series of events commemorating the 75th anniversary of the extermination of Jews committed by the Third Reich in 1942-1943 under the codename “Aktion Reinhardt.”

The guests, who arrived in great numbers, were welcomed by director of the Lublin Philharmonic Wojciech Rodek and director of the State Museum at Majdanek Tomasz Kranz. The latter reminded a series of activities carried out by the Museum as part of the observances. He remarked that paying homage to the victims by means of music supplemented the earlier prepared scientific and exhibition projects. A letter by State Secretary at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage was read. He stressed how important it is to remember past event:

We want to remember the terror and suffering, and by our own inherent ability to empathy and by memory to venerate and dignify the victims of the German Nazi extermination policy.

Participants to the concert listened to works by Mieczysław Weinberg, Ernest Bloch and Bohuslav Martinů performed by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Henryk Wieniawski Lublin Philharmonic, Irmina Trynkos (violin) and Piotr Wajrak (conductor).

During the concert, the exhibition of works by Joseph Richter “Drawings on the Scraps of Life” depicting Nazi persecutions and extermination of Jews in the Lublin region was presented.

The concert received honorary patronage of the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Culture and National Heritage prof. dr hab. Piotr Gliński.
