On October 6, the works of Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Mikołaj Górecki and Wojciech Kilar honoured the commencement of the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the State Museum at Majdanek.

The participants of the jubilee concert 'History and memory' at the Lublin Philharmonic were welcomed by the director of the State Museum at Majdanek, Tomasz Kranz. He expressed gratitude to all employees and former prisoners who created this place throughout its entire existence. He emphasized how important are the people and organizations supporting the Museum:

"Today, with this concert, we would like to draw attention to the significance of the nearest social environment for the State Museum at Majdanek. What I mean are the residents of Lublin, institutions, organizations and schools operating in our city. We just want to thank you all for this concert, for your cooperation, support and good thoughts."

A letter from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage was also read. In the message sent on the occassion of the anniversary prof. dr hab. Piotr Gliński emphasized the important role of the museum and thanked everyone who cares about the remains of the Majdanek camp and maintains the memory of its victims:

"The State Museum at Majdanek cultivates the memory of the victims of three out of eight death camps built in the conquered Poland during German occupation; the Lublin camp at Majdanek, since 2004 the camp in Bełżec and, since 2012, the camp in Sobibór. Today, I want to thank Director Tomasz Kranz and the entire team of the State Museum at Majdanek for storing and responsible disseminating of knowledge about this painful legacy."

After that, the performers appeared on the stage: soprano Hanna Okońska, pianist Mateusz Krzyżowski and members of the Lublin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Wojciech Rodek. The large audience heard the Symphony No. 3, Op. 36, also known as ‘the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs’ by Henryk Mikołaj Górecki, Mikołaj Górecki's elegy 'Jasności promieniste' (radiant brightness) and Wojciech Kilar's Piano Concerto No. 1.
