National Day of Remembrance of Poles who rescued Jews under German occupation.
On the National Day of Remembrance of Poles Rescuing Jews under German Occupation, students from the Zespół Szkół in Ruda Różaniecka took part in educational workshops entitled "I did it for you... to save you." This extraordinary meeting gave us the opportunity to deepen our knowledge of the Holocaust and to draw attention to the sacrifice of Polish heroes who risked their lives to save Jews from extermination.
After the classes, the participants of the event learned about the history of the former German Nazi death camp for Jews and got to know the individual fates of people sentenced to death.
We thank everyone who took part in this event and commemorated the heroes who fought for human life and dignity in the cruel times of war.
On March 24, 1944, in Markowa, Podkarpacie, Józef and Wiktoria Ulma, their children, and the Jews they were hiding were murdered by the Germans as a result of a denunciation. This day was established as the National Day of Remembrance of Poles Rescuing Jews under German Occupation.
The story of the Ulma family is a symbol of the heroism and sacrifice that many Poles showed in rescuing Jews from extermination. This tragic event reminds us of the courage and solidarity of many Poles in the face of the cruel German occupation.
