"Poles rescuing Jews during World War II" IPN exhibition presented at the Museum and Memorial Site in Belzec
As part of the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of "Aktion Reinhardt", on 03.10 the Museum and Memorial Site in Belzec opened to the public an exhibition entitled. "Poles rescuing Jews during World War II". The opening meeting was attended by representatives of local authorities, principals of schools from the Tomaszów district, as well as teachers and students.
The exhibition was prepared by employees of the Branch Office of National Education of the Institute of National Remembrance in Rzeszow. The panels with archival photographs and documents, using selected examples, show the types and circumstances of aid provided by Poles to the Jewish population. Organized help (the activities of "Zegota") and individual help, both in the occupied country and abroad, are presented. The exhibition documents a wide range of activities of Poles who risked their lives to save Jews during the Holocaust. Also presented are those who were repressed for their help, as well as the post-war contacts of the survivors with their saviors and the fate of Jewish children saved by Poles.
The photographs used in the exhibition come from the Ulm Family Museum of Poles Saving Jews during World War II in Markowa, the Institute of National Remembrance, the Museum in Przeworsk, the Historical Museum of the City of Cracow, the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, the National Digital Archive, the State Archive in Cracow, the Jewish Historical Institute in Warsaw and from private collections.
The event was accompanied by workshops prepared by museum staff for schoolchildren from the Łukawica Elementary School.
