A group of students from seven countries – Belgium, Germany, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Turkey, and Poland – visited the State Museum at Majdanek on March 12, 2014. Their stay in Poland, coordinated by the Stefan Czarniecki Secondary School in Nisko, was related with an educational programme concerning the young people rights and their opportunities in modern Europe.
The programme included an educational visit to the museum – memorial site at Majdanek. The stay at Majdanek was for many participants the first chance to learn about the history of German concentration and death camps as well as to visit an authentic site that commemorates the victims of Nazi crimes. The main topic of the classes was the situation of children deported to the concentration camp in Lublin. The classes started with a multimedia presentation devoted to fates of minor Majdanek prisoners. Then pupils were guided through the grounds of the former camp, open-air exhibition and main post-camp buildings – barracks showing dwelling conditions, warehouses, crematorium, bath barracks, and gas chambers.
