On February 27 the last session of the MuseumCouncil in this term took place. The Chairman of the Council, Prof. Andrzej Stępnik, summed up the results of the Museum work during the past 4 years: “I would like to notice that the Museum advanced as a centre of research on contemporary history, as well as history teaching. This period of time was very fruitful. Universities are going through a severe slump – there are no funds, students turn their back on history, there are only few World War II historians (…). The Museum took over many research tasks that earlier were assigned to universities. I was impressed when I participated in the promotion of the journal ‘Zeszyty Majdanka.’ These publications differ from those in bookstores – these are erudite research papers.”

The Director of the State Museum at Majdanek, Tomasz Kranz, acquainted the Council with all the actions carried out by the Museum in 2014, as well as elaborated on events accompanying the 70th anniversary of KL Lublin liquidation, the 70th anniversary of the State Museum at Majdanek and the 10th anniversary of the Museum – Memorial Site in Bełżec.Much attention has been paid to investments such as a major renovation of the building of the Visitors Service Centre and construction works by the new museum in Sobibor. The Members of the Council unanimously accepted the annual report of the Museum activities, as well as work schedule for the next year.
