On the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and due to the 70th anniversary of the Majdanek camp liquidation that will be held later this year, theBundeswehr Military History Museum in Dresden organized the exhibition commemorating families from Dresden that were persecuted at the time of the National Socialism. The State Museum at Majdanek lent a jacket and hat to be showcased at the exhibition.

The exhibition title "Schuhe von Toten" [Shoes of the Dead] originates from a poem composed by a 12-years-old Jewishgirl employed in the Majdanek camp to sort shoes in 1943. Another prisoner, Nechama Fränkel, learned it by heart and recited it during the proceedings against the Majdanek SS-staff in 1972. The poem has become the central element of the exhibition.
