Study stay for the youth from Albertus-Magnus Gymnasium in Bensberg

On July 7, 2017, in the Memorial and Museum in Bełżec, a study trip was held for German youth from the Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium in Bensberg.

The stay included visiting the site of the extermination camp in Bełżec and the museum exhibition. Then the young people took part in educational workshops that aimed to trace the fate of German Jews deported to the Lublin region and settled in transit ghettos. Based on the letters written by one of the German Jews living in the transit Ghetto in Izbica, the students learned how hard the conditions were, how their daily work and the struggle for survival were. The transit ghetto in the Lublin region were places of temporary residence of Jews on the way to the death camps in Bełżec and Sobibor.

The educational walk to the "Commandantry", ended the stay in the Museum. There the participants were acquainted with the figures of the camp crew in Bełżec. Then the participants went to the main railway station, where the trasnports with Jews targeted to death were driven. At this point, the young people got to know both the drama of the victims transported to the camp and the prospect of Belżec inhabitants in the vicinity of the killing center.
