The 76th anniversary of the first deportation of Jews to the Nazi German death camp in Bełżec

On March 19, 2018, the 76th anniversary of the beginning of "Aktion Reinhardt" was marked at the Museum - Memorial Site in Bełżec.

The first transport arrived to the death camp in Bełżec in the morning of March 17, 1942. It departed from Lublin and was followed with the second one - from Lwow. Starting from this day, about 179 transports with 430,000 Jewish men, women and children came to the death camp in Bełżec until mid-December 1942.

The ceremony commemorating the victims included a performance entitled "Make Them All Remeber" prepared by students of the Piotr Firlej Secondary School in Lubartów. The observances finished with lying down flowers and lightining candles in the Ohel Niche.

The honorary guest was Judy Josephs, survivor from Holocaust, born in Lublin. During the first deportation of March 17, 1942, Germans deported to Bełżec her 23-year-old sister Bronia Finkelstein. On this day Judy, using the name of Jochweta, was hidden along with her brothers in an apartment in the ghetto.
