The publication containing proceedings from the Polish-German scientific conference co-organised by the State Museum at Majdanek was issued this August. It was devoted to the culture of remembrance and work at museums, both commemorating the victims of the Nazism.

The articles presented in the volume touch upon a number of issues related to the remembrance of the World War II, the creation processes of various narrations and images from the past, as well as to national historical backgrounds and Polish-German present disputes. The publication discusses also the issue of historical education in Polish and German memorial sites, its forms, working methods and new challenges, which are based on concrete examples. Moreover, it points out differences in historical policy, culture of remembrance and historical awareness of Poles and Germans. At the same time, it calls for the continuation of the Polish-German cooperation between museums – memorial sites, asks questions about common initiatives and inspirations for practical actions regarding European remembrance horizon. The book was published in German and Polish. The limited number of copies was provided to be distributed free of charge for the Polish readers by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Warsaw.
