The new visual identification system of the Museum
Modern, simple in form, and at the same time ambiguous. This is what the new logo of the State Museum at Majdanek looks like.
The characteristic Monument-Gate had been functioning for many years as a graphic logo identifying the Museum. It reminded of a form of commemoration that was very recognizable for this place and fulfilled its role as a logo for more than a decade. At that time, however, the Museum's target recipients have changed. The interpretation of meaning of this logo has also changed, not only for young generation. Currently, image and all graphic forms that uniquely distinguish a given place but are also aesthetic and attractive are greatly emphasized. This is also the function of the Museum's new logo. It is also supposed to bond the three important places of remembrance marked by the tragic history of World War II. Besides the State Museum at Majdanek, the logo will be used by the branches of the institution, namely the Museum and Memorial Site in Bełżec and the Museum and Memorial Site in Sobibór.
The main inspiration for the logo is the Mausoleum, which is part of the Monument of Struggle and Martyrdom. Designers say: ‘As part of the creative process, the elements of architecture already existing at the memorial sites at Majdanek, in Bełżec and Sobibór were also taken into account. The minimalist and abstract form of the logo allows many interpretations of it, it encourages reflection and devoting a moment of time to learn the intentions of the creator. This moment of reflection is so characteristic of the place that this sign represents.’
A new graphic symbol will appear on Museum's publications, on information boards, Museum's website which make the exploration of the camp easier. It will also identify events organized by the Museum.
