The report on the activities of the State Museum at Majdanek in 2018
The latest report on the Museum’s activity has been published. As always, it presents the most important events organised by the State Museum at Majdanek, achievements, information on collections, maintenance and activities addressed to the wide audience.
Last year, 217,389 people visited us. It is worth noting that visiting museum exposition in organised groups was very popular. In 2018 the employees of the Museum guided almost 200 visitor groups more than in the previous year. We also reach wide audience by organising events or exhibitions outside the headquarters of the State Museum at Majdanek. 264,631 people in Poland and abroad participated in them in 2018.
One of the most important events that took place last year was the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the uprising of the German Nazi extermination camp prisoners in Sobibór. Moreover, for the first time in cooperation with Lublin Philharmonic we organised a symphonic concert commemorating the victims of ‘Aktion Reinhardt’.
We are grateful for the trust and generosity of the families of former Majdanek prisoners and people helping them, who especially great-heartedly gave many belongings of their relatives to our Museum. In total, we received several hundred documents, objects and photographs related to the stories of Antonina Grygowa, Jan Klonowski, Wojciech Szczudło, Romuald Sztaba and others.
As always, an important issue in the activity of our Museum was education. The educational process is carried out on the basis of our original concept ‘pedagogy of remembrance’.
