The sixth edition of the seminar HISTORY - EDUCATION - MEMORY
On June 5, the sixth seminar "History - Education - Memory" was held, dedicated to historians, teachers, and regionalists. The meeting was held on the 19th anniversary of the Museum and Memorial Site opening in Belzec.
The lecture series was opened by a presentation by Dr. Halina Postek, entitled "The Warsaw Ghetto Museum on the museum map of Poland - what it is, its achievements and plans for the future." The speaker talked about the educational work of museum employees, film projects, and the use of social media to promote knowledge about the Warsaw Ghetto. The lecture also discussed the creation of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum, archaeological research, and the adaptation of the former Bersohn and Bauman Hospital building for exhibition purposes.
Next, the floor was taken by Dr. Sebastian Różycki, an employee of the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography at Warsaw University of Technology, who in a lecture entitled: "Reconstruction of the topography of the death camp in Belzec based on archival aerial photographs" talked about the latest technologies used to study the topography of the post-camp areas on the basis of aerial photographs and witness testimony.
The series of lectures ended with a speech by Ms. Ewelina Szumilak, an employee of the Museum in Belzec, who addressed the topic of education in a martyrological museum based on the assumptions of the pedagogy of remembrance. Also discussed was the aspect of preparing young people for a visit to the memorial site and various forms of summarizing the visit.
The seminar ended with a guided tour of the memorial site and the lighting of candles at the Nisha Ohel in tribute to the victims of the Belzec death camp.
