The State Museum at Majdanek takes over the building housing the former office of the Bełżec death camp commandant

By the end of 2015, the State Museum at Majdanek takes over from Polskie Koleje Państwowe S.A. [Polish State Railways] a plot with two buildings used during World WarII by the commandant office of the German Nazi death camp in Bełżec. The buildings need extensive renovation.

The Museum will procure construction expertise and conservation documentation of the buildings in order to determine their technical condition, scope and costs of indispensable renovation and conservation work. The director of the Museum will also appoint a team to prepare functional-utility program.

In the future, according to the preliminary plan, the building of the former commandant’s office will house an educational base of the Museum – Memorial Site in Bełżec, a branch of the State Museum at Majdanek. Among many other things, historical workshops and museum lessons for students from Bełżec and its vicinity, as well as classes for foreign groups and international seminars for teachers devoted to history and issues related to “Aktion Reinhardt” will be held in new seminary rooms.
