The third workcamp at the Memorial Site in Bełżec

On October 24, students of the Stefan Batory Elementary School no. 4 in Zamość took part in the third workcamp at the Memorial Site in Bełżec.

During the educational part, the volunteers learned about the history of the Bełżec death camp and were guided through the museum’s permanent exhibition. Students took part also in the educational workshops entitled ‘The chroniclers of «inhumane times». The German occupation of Zamojszczyzna in the texts of Zygmunt Klukowski, Janusz Peter and Stanisław Pojasek’. Classes in form of workshops or a museum class are the part of a temporary exhibition ‘Res non humana – An inhumane thing. The German occupation of Zamojszczyzna 1939-1944’. The exhibition was presented in the museum’s educational room for the volunteers from Zamość specifically.

The educational programs realised by the Memorial Site in Bełżec are focused not only on conveying factual knowledge but also on engaging students in creative and unaided work combined with research efforts, which effect should be the development of historical thinking and the ability to formulate own conclusions.

As a part of the workcamp, students from Zamość did some maintenance works in the Ohel Niche.
