On 17 April 2017, the Żonkile project was completed within the International Holocaust Remembrence Day marking the 74thanniversary of the outbreak of the Uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto. The project was organised by the Tomaszów Lubelski Branch of the Pedagogical Library in Zamość, in cooperation with the Museum – Memorial Site in Bełżec. The participants of the project were students of the B. Głowacki’s School Complex no. 1 in Tomaszów Lubelski.

During the meeting, the youth took part in the lecture delivered by Ewa Koper on the history of the Uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto as well as they thoroughly went over the letters written in the ghetto by Halinka Szwambaum, who wrote to her teacher living at that time on the “Aryan side” of the city. The author of the letters probably died during the Uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto in 1943. Her letters constitute a highly valuable historical source depicting the atrocities of the Jewish nation.

After the historical workshops, the youth made hand-crafted paper daffodils and, together with their teacher Katarzyna Ważna, library workers Anna Pitura and Małgorzata Łaba, and the representative of the Memorial Site in Bełżec - Ewa Koper, visited the Monument commemorating the murdered Jews from Tomaszów where they laid flowers and lit candles.
