Between March 30 – April 2, 2015, the Holocaust Remembrance Research Team from the Institute of Polish Culture in the University of Warsaw organised a seminar at the State Museum at Majdanek. The project called “Traces of Holocaust in the imaginarium of the Polish culture” included a study tour around the outdoor and historical exhibitions, meetings, presentations and debates with members of the staff of the Department of Collections, Archives, as well as Education and Exhibition Departments, which concerned the history of the Museum, current exhibitions, conservation problems, and the issues of influence and perception of the memorial site by present-day visitors.

The participants took part in a number of lectures, including one regarding the concept of the new exhibition “The Prisoners of Majdanek” against the history of the previous expositions, as well as the pedagogy of remembrance, which is the basis of the practical educational activity of the State Museum at Majdanek. The display of museum collections also proved to be an inspiring experience, both cognitive and emotional. The presentation regarded the selected aspects: the authentic camp artifacts as testimony and memory carriers, as well as camp documents – evidences, conservation, significance. On the last day of the seminar the participants visited the Museum – Memorial Site in Bełżec, where they saw the monument complex commemorating the victims of the camp, and the permanent historical exhibition.
