Visit of representatives of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
On January 28, delegation from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington visited the Museum and Memorial Site in Belzec. Among the distinguished guests was director Sara J. Bloomfield, members of the Board with families, as well as a museum volunteer, survivor of the Holocaust, who was deported to the Auschwitz death camp in May 1944 from Hungary, Irene Weiss.
The guests were welcomed by director Tomasz Kranz. The delegation was guided through the permanent exhibition and the monumental complex by Jacek Nowakowski, senior curator, National Institute for Holocaust Documentation and one of the exhibition curators at the Museum in Bełżec. It was a very emotional experience for all.
The Museum was one of the stops on the route of the American delegation, whose arrival in Poland was associated with the 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of the German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp Auschwitz.
