Visit of the youth from Warstein, Germany
On January 9, the youth from Warstein in Germany visited the former transit ghetto in Izbica as well as the Museum and Memorial Site in Bełżec as a part of a study tour ’Spurensuche Nationalsozialismus’.
The young people from Germany took part in a study trip on behalf of the Internationale Bildungs-und Begegnungswerk. Firstly, the participants visited the Jewish shtetl Izbica, which was the main transitional ghetto during the German occupation for Jews resettled from Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. During a walk around the town the youth learned about the living conditions that prevailed in those ghettos, the course of deportation and they paid respect to the murdered in the Jewish cemetery by lighting memory candle on a mass grave. As a part of the study visit, students from Warstein also got to know the history of the German Nazi extermination camp in Belzec - they were shown around the historical exhibition and the area of commemoration.
