"Walk of Remembrance" in Rabka Zdrój
On the last weekend of August, Rabka Zdroj hosted a "Walk of Remembrance" organized by initiative group "Historia Rabki", during which the memory of Rabka Jews who were deported to the German Nazi extermination camp in Belzec on the last Sunday of August 1942 was commemorated.
The ceremony was accompanied by a lecture by Dr. Ewa Koper, an employee of the Belzec Museum and Memorial, titled "And One Empty Place Cries" and a presentation of the temporary exhibition "The German Death Camp in Belzec. History and relics" discussing the history of the Belzec death camp in light of archaeological excavations.
On August 28-30, 1942, the Germans transported some 3,000 Jews from the Nowy Targ district, from towns such as Nowy Targ, Zakopane, Rabka, Maków Podhalański, Szczawnica and Czarny Dunajec, to the Belzec extermination camp.
