Workshops for the volunteers from the Association Action Reconciliation/Service for Peace

The educational seminar entitled "The history and remembrance"took place between July 14and 18 at theState Museum at Majdanek. The members of the Association tookpart in it. The main objectives of the seminar were to make volunteers from Germany familiar with the history ofthe German occupation in the Lublin District and to discuss the senseof commemoration and remembering the victims of the Nazi occupation for people nowadays.
Among thecognitive aspects were:sightseeing Lublin and visiting the memorial site at Majdanek, the lecturedevoted to prevailing tasks and functions of remembrance museums, workshops on a part of the history of KL Lublin, the historical meaning ofthe German colonisation and germanisation in the Lublin Region, along with the meeting with a former prisoner of Majdanek, Zdzisław Badio.
The principal methods applied during the workshops were to engage the youthto actively learn and acquire the historical knowledge as part of the peer education. The volunteers were divided in workinggroups and they discussed a couple of aspects from the history of KL Lublin, such as:living conditions, perpetrators and their motives, resistance movement and its forms, art in the camp, mass genocide on Jewish prisoners of Majdanek on November 3, 1943.
The workshop consisted of mutual guided tours through the open-air and historical exposition,with volunteers as theguides. They shared the knowledge they acquired with their peers.
