Young Germans and Austrians serving the reconciliation

View photos

Among people getting involved in the activities of the State Museum at Majdanek, there are also youths who after passing their secondary school-leaving exams decide to participate in the 12 months long volunteering programme at the Museum. Two organizations: Action Reconciliation Service for Peace (Aktion Sühnezeichen – Friedensdienste) from Germany and Niemals Vergessen from Austria make it possible.

Young Germans and Austrians support activities of the Education Department of the Museum. They work as guides and help to organize study visits. They commit themselves to activities of Maximilian-Kolbe-Werk and help elder people – former prisoners of the camp, in their everyday duties. This year their volunteering programme completed Pia Hansen and Daniel Waldl. We are extremely grateful for their presence.
