Change of work rules on Mondays and holidays

We would like to inform you that from December 24, 2024, the working system of the State Museum at Majdanek and its branches - the Sobibor Memorial Museum and the Belzec Memorial Museum - will be changed. The museum will be completely inaccessible to visitors (the main gate and side gates will remain closed) on all Mondays and the following holidays: January 1 (New Year's Day), January 6 (“Epiphany”), Easter, Corpus Christi, November 11 (National Independence Day), and December 24-31.

On November 1 (All Saints' Day) at the State Museum at Majdanek in Lublin, only the parking lot and the passage to the municipal cemetery from Tetmajera Street to Cmentarna Street will be open. All the Museum's buildings and its exhibitions will remain closed.

    On June 3, the historical exhibition, information point and the office of the Museum – Memorial Site in Bełżec will be closed. The grounds of the commemoration can be visited between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

    The 10th anniversary of the Museum – Memorial Site in Bełżec

    The Museum – Memorial Site in Bełżec was founded on June 3, 2004, as a branch of the Sate Museum at Majdanek in Lublin. The then president of the Republic of Poland, Aleksander Kwaśniewski, took part in the celebration of that event. For nearly 10 years, until the end of the year 2013, the Museum has been visited by over 300 thousand people, with foreign visitors consisting 20%.

    Osiem referatów, panel dyskusyjny i oddanie hołdu ofiarom obozu zagłady w Bełżcu. 10. rocznicę powstania Muzeum – Miejsca Pamięci w Bełżcu upamiętni konferencja naukowa pt. „Sztuka pamięci. Rzeźba pomnikowa w miejscach Zagłady w Polsce”. Odbędzie się ona 3 czerwca 2014 roku w siedzibie MMPB, gdzie znajduje się jeden z najbardziej poruszających pomników Zagłady w Europie.

    Lessons for deaf or hard of hearing young people

    The pupils from the junior high school at the Special Purpose School and Education Center for deaf or hard of hearing children and young people in Lublin made their annual visit to the State Museum at Majdanek. They took part in a lesson devoted to the fate of displaced people from the Zamość Region, who were deported to the concentration camp at Majdanek in the summer of 1943.

    On May 14, the students of the Junior Secondary School No. 7 in Lublin took part in the museum lesson entitled “The world behind wires”. The classes made it possible not only to familiarise the students with the history of KL Lublin, but also to examine attitudes of people in “the world behind wires” – the inmates of the concentration camp at Majdanek.

    Students of the Police Academy in Hamburg commemorate the Holocaust victims

    This year we honour the 72. anniversary of the beginning of mass executions of Jewish people in the Lublin District, carried out by the Hamburg Reserve Battalion 101. Its German members had participated in shooting of 38,000 Jews, and in deporting another 45,000 Jews to death camps. Following the tragic history, a group of students of Police Academy in Hamburg visited Lublin in order to come to terms with the past of their military formation. They took part in one of the historic civic educational projects, supported by the State Museum at Majdanek since 2001.

    History and literary classes about the past, based on the diary written in the camp

    The State Museum at Majdanek is in possession of a very precious document. It’s a diary written by the former prisoner Jadwiga Ankiewicz who describes her 4-month stay in the camp when she was 17 years old.The museum lesson entitled “But a part of my heart stayed there, at Majdanek – the camp reality in Jadwiga Ankiewicz’s diary” is conducted on the basis of this historical source. On April 6, 2014, students of the Academic Sports High School took part in such classes.

    Workcamp – Remember for the future

    View photos A group of German teenagers from Neunkirchen, Saarland, Germany, took part in an educational project devoted to the history of the former German concentration camp at Majdanek on April 22-25, 2014. The classes were combined with cleaning some historical relics.

    Employees of the Education Department of the State Museum at Majdanek prepared some educational classes for students of Lublin schools as part of the Day of Commemoration in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust. It falls on 19 April, at the anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

    Together about difficult past

    On April 3-4, 2014, a Polish-German educational project devoted to the history of KL Lublin took place at the State Museum at Majdanek. It was participated by students of the Secondary School No. 5 in Lublin and German students from Gesamtschule in Schermbeck. On the first day they visited the museum exhibition and the grounds of the former concentration camp. A meeting with former Majdanek prisoner Stanisława Kruszewska was an overwhelming experience for the young people.

    From March 28 to April 2, 2014, students from the Friedrich von Bodelschwingh Bethel School in Bielefeld and Secondary School No. 5 in Lublin participated in intercultural historical workshops, which developed their knowledge on the history of the German occupation of the Lublin region and the concentration camp at Majdanek.
