For nearly 70 years the Archives of the State Museum at Majdanek have gathered about 180 linear meters of documents. The newest Museum’s book is the first publication describing these collections cross-sectionally.

We are deeply shocked and outraged by the release of the Polish Press Agency on the painting made allegedly with the ashes of the Majdanek victims. This actionis probablyan artistic provocation deserving only to becondemned. However, it is certain that the Swedish painter did not enter into possession of the ashes legally. We hope that the proper agencies will promptly determine whether the remnants of the Majdanek victims were stolen and desecrated. In such a case, bearing in mind the theft of the sign from the main gate to the former KL Auschwitz, it would be another unimaginable act of savagery.

The archival resources of the State Museum at Majdanek have been expanded with another original documents and photographs taken at the time of the camp existence.

On December5 the Archives of the State Museum at Majdanek are closed. We apologize for any inconvenience it may cause.

Issued by the Museum, the album includes forty photographs by Leszek Mądzik. He captured the winter landscape of Majdanek, but his frames reflect also the tragic history of the place. The book promotion was held in the State Museum at Majdanek on November 28.

The Warsaw Rising Museum and the Polish-German Youth Cooperation organized a seminar for Polish and German teachers in charge of youth exchange programs. It was entitled “History products? Purposes and chances of the historical education in Poland and Germany.” The first part of the seminar was held in Szczecin and Berlin in August, whereas the second one in Warsaw and Lublin in November.

The Column of Three Eagles can be again admired in Field III. It has been thoroughly restored with the leveled shaft and exchanged head. The present capital resembles the original one of 1943. The author of the replica is sculptor Witold Marcewicz.The official unveiling of the monument will mark the 70th anniversary of its construction and will be held in May 2013.

Przebiegowi „Akcji Reinhardt”, jej sprawcom i reakcjom na Zagładę poświęcona była międzynarodowa konferencja naukowa zorganizowana w dniach 8–9 listopada przez Państwowe Muzeum na Majdanku. Poza polskimi badaczami, wzięli w niej udział także historycy m.in. z Niemiec, Izraela i Czech.

W ramach wyjazdu naukowo-badawczego „Śladami Żydów lubelskich” grupa studentów z Centrum Badań Holokaustu przy Instytucie Europeistyki Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego odwiedziła 14 października 2012 r. Państwowe Muzeum na Majdanku. Celem wizyty, zaplanowanej wspólnie z pracownikami Działu Edukacji PMM, było nie tylko obejrzenie ekspozycji muzealnej, ale również zapoznanie się z historią i działalnością edukacyjną Muzeum.

24 października uczniowie I Liceum Ogólnokształcącego w Lublinie i Annette-von-Droste-Hülshoff-Gymansium w Münster wspólnie odwiedzili Państwowe Muzeum na Majdanku, aby zapoznać się z historią obozu koncentracyjnego w Lublinie.

Starting from November 1, opening hours of the State Museum at Majdanek and Museum of the Former Death Camp in Sobibór are changed. In the winter season, part of the museum exhibition is also closed.

Between October 10 and 13, “Days of Majdanek”were heldat the State Museum at Majdanek. It wasa remarkable possibility toget acquainted with the history of the former German concentration camp and the activities performed by our institution. The programme included, among other things, an educational session, meetings with former prisoners and researchers, as well as presentation of aerial photos.

Education is gaining on importance in many museums in Poland. Participants in the scholarly conference “Education in memorial sites in Poland. New trends and tendencies” talked about education in martyrological museums and pondered whether history didactics might come to their aid. The conference was organized by the State Museum at Majdanek and Institute of History at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University.

21 września, w ramach IX Lubelskiego Festiwalu Nauki, odbyły się warsztaty historyczne „Odkrywanie miejsca historycznego”. Uczniowie X Gimnazjum w Lublinie mieli okazję zapoznać się z historią obozu i losami uwięzionych w nich ludzi, zwiedzając z przewodnikiem wystawę historyczną. Następnie, zaopatrzeni we fragmenty relacji byłych więźniów i zdjęcia historyczne,w małych grupkach odwiedzali miejsca, które miały w obozie szczególne znaczenie, m.in. kuchnię obozowa, gammelblock, warsztat szewski.

26 i 27 września młodzi Polacy i Niemcy, uczniowie lubelskiego Liceum Nr 5 i Gesamtschule Schermbeck, odwiedzili Państwowe Muzeum na Majdanku w ramach odbywającej się wymiany szkolnej. Dzięki oprowadzaniu z przewodnikiem zapoznali się z miejscem historycznym. Mieli także możliwość studiowania materiałów źródłowych, co poszerzyło ich wiedzę na temat funkcjonowania obozu koncentracyjnego.

The State Museum at Majdanek provides readers with new publications. This time they include a guide presenting activities of the Museum and a picture album accompanying the “Majdanek in Leszek Mądzik’s photography” exhibition.

To mark the 70th anniversary of „Aktion Reinhardt,” the University of Pedagogy in Vienna, veterans’ organizations from Austria, unions of former prisoners of concentration camps and members of the resistance movement organized in cooperation with the State Museum at Majdanek a study trip to former Nazi death camps and other places connected with extermination of Jews in the General Government. It was held on September 21-28, 2012.

On October 10, “Days of Majdanek” start at the State Museum at Majdanek. It’s a remarkable possibility to get acquainted with the history of the former German concentration camp and the activities performed by our institution. The programme includes, among other things, an educational session, meetings with former prisoners and researchers, as well as presentation of aerial photos.

From April to August 2012, FelixPaetzel from Germany worked in the State Museum at Majdanek as a part of Erasmus internship program.

Forthe last 12 months Franziska Rolf from Germany supported the State Museum at Majdanek in its activities as a part of a volunteer programme coordinated by the Action Reconciliation Service for Peace in Germany.

On September 7-10, 2012, members of the Association “Church Asylum” visited Lublin. This organization from Berlin; which is open to evangelical and catholic communities, as well as to private persons; gives counsel and shelter to refugees who may face deportation; prepares publications, conferences, and artistic events referring to the work for refugees, policy against refugees, and their reception in Germany.

The Society for the Protection of Majdanek, Catechetical Department of the Metropolitan Curia and the Children of the Zamość Region Association invite to the religious ceremony that will take place on the grounds of the State Museum at Majdanek on September 18, 2011 (Sunday).
