The Nazi German extermination camp in Belzec. History and Relics

The exhibition discusses the history of the camp in the light of archaeological excavations. It presents photos of artefacts acquired during the work on the site of the former death camp in 1997-1999 as well as historical and contemporary photographs. The exhibition supports educational activities for young people in schools and cultural institutions.

Every victim has a name

The exhibition presents the profiles of people murdered in the Bełżec extermination camp. The victims were deported from the Lublin, Galicia, and Cracow districts. Their fate is illustrated by photographs, consisting mainly of the portraits, which were taken before the war had begun, is supplemented with short biographical entries of the presented people and additional information about their relatives.

Deportations to the death camp in Belzec

Photographs, documents, and witness accounts reveal the dramatic perspective of individuals condemned to deportation and death.

During World War II, the leaders of the Third Reich pursued a policy aimed at the total extermination of the Jewish population in Europe. The public humiliation of Jews, their conscription into forced labor, the stripping of their property, and their relocation to ghettos were merely a prelude to the brutal deportations and murders carried out in extermination camps. No transport lists were kept, and the victims perished anonymously. Only through the testimonies of those who escaped deportation or jumped from trains do we gain insight into the harrowing perspective of those condemned to deportation, death, and oblivion.
