Detail of the memorial at the Museum and Memorial Site in Bełżec. The name “Zamość” appears in Polish and Hebrew on a concrete slab. Fallen autumn leaves surround the letters, with a field of stones visible in the background.
We invite you to the March of Remembrance and accompanying events dedicated to the memory of the Jewish residents of Zamość and the victims of the Zamość ghetto.

For generations, Jews helped shape the town of Zamość. After the outbreak of the war, people from other towns and countries were also sent to the local ghetto. Most of them were murdered in German Nazi extermination camps, including Bełżec. On 16 October 1942, the Germans carried out the final liquidation of the ghetto. They ordered the Jews who were still alive to walk to the ghetto in Izbica. Many people died during this march. That day symbolically marked the end of the Jewish community’s presence in Zamość. On the 84th anniversary of these events, we wish to come together to remember our Jewish neighbours and pay tribute to them.
