Every Victim Has a Name

The photo shows a memorial to the victims at the Bełżec Museum. Along a concrete ledge of a wall engraved with names, there is a row of black-and-white portrait photographs of specific individuals, including children. A lit candle in a small, blue glass holder stands in front of each portrait.
We are implementing a project aimed at collecting information about individuals murdered in the German Nazi extermination camp in Bełżec. This undertaking constitutes an important element of the museum’s activities, as well as part of cooperation with international institutions engaged in research on the history of the Holocaust.
Our foremost goal is to restore the identities of the victims – ensuring they do not remain anonymous, as their perpetrators intended. We seek to reclaim their names and preserve their individual stories from oblivion, which will also form the basis for the educational programs offered at the Museum.
