    Observances of the Holocaust Remembrance Day at Majdanek

    This year the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising is marked. Majdanek was one of the places where Jews captured in the liquidated ghetto were deported. Falling on April 19, the observances of the Holocaust Remembrance Day were be devoted to the fates of the deportees.

    Italian book on KL Lublin

    As a result of cooperation between the State Museum at Majdanek and Istituto tecnico statale Guarino Guarini in Turin a book “Deportati italiani nel lager di Majdanek,” ed. A. Filippi and L. Ferracin was published. It is devoted to the fates of the Italian prisoners of Majdanek.

    The Way of the Cross and opening of an exhibition devoted to priests – prisoners of Majdanek

    On March 22, for the 14th time, the Way of the Cross took place on the grounds of the former concentration camp at Majdanek. It was preceded with opening of an exhibition entitled “Blessed Priests from Majdanek – Priest Roman Archutowski and Priest Emilian Kowcz.”

    Opening hours on Holy Saturday

    On March 30, Holy Saturday, grounds of the Museum at Majdanek and all entrance gates are open from 9.00 to 18.00. The Visitor Service Centre is closed.

    Extended opening hours

    From April 2, the exhibition, grounds and historical buildings of the State Museum at Majdanek can be visited between 9.00 and 18.00.

    The newest Museum’s book – the first issue of sources relating to the death camp in Bełżec

    Accounts by the only survivors from the Nazi death camp in Bełżec and testimonies given by inhabitants of Bełżec have been gathered in the latest book by the State Museum at Majdanek. “Death Camp in Bełżec in Accounts by the Survivors and Testimonies by Polish Witnesses” [Obóz zagłady wBełżcu wrelacjach ocalonych izeznaniach polskich świadków] edited by Dariusz Libionka is the first publication of sources relating to this death camp.

    The death camp in Bełżec operated since March 1942. On March 19, 2013, in the Lublin Jeshiva, to observe the anniversary of the first deportations of the Jews to that extermination center, the State Museum at Majdanek held promotion of the book entitled “Death Camp in Bełżec in Accounts by the Survivors and Testimonies by Polish Witnesses”, edited by Dariusz Libionka.

    Launch of the latest book issued by the State Museum at Majdanek

    The death camp in Bełżec operated since March 1942. To observe the anniversary of the first deportations of the Jews to that extermination center, the State Museum at Majdanek issues its latest publication entitled “Death Camp in Bełżec in Accounts by the Survivors and Testimonies by Polish Witnesses”, edited by Dariusz Libionka. Its promotion will be held in the Lublin Jeshiva at Lubartowska 85 on March 19 at 17:30. We cordially invite.

    Modern exhibition equipment in barracks no. 62

    Four stands using holographic projections, eleven modern display cases and lightening system. The Museum continues equipping the building of camp shoemakers’ workshops, as part of the project “Conversion of barracks no. 62 for exhibiting purposes.”

    W dniach 4–15 lutego 2013 r. gościła w Państwowym Muzeum na Majdanku grupa uczniów z Gesamtschule Waltrop z Nadrenii Północnej-Westfalii w Niemczech. Młodzież niemiecka zrealizowała w tym czasie praktykę historyczna dotyczącą historii obozów koncentracyjnych oraz form upamiętniania ofiar nazistowskich zbrodni.

    Commemorating Shoah – study trip for young Austrians to memorial sites in Poland

    For 10 years Österreichische Gewerkschaftsjugend, a Vienna organization for young trade union members, has been organizing study trips to memorial sites in Poland. The aim of the seminars is to visit historical sites relating to the Second World War and to commemorate Holocaust victims. Among the museums visited each year by the Austrians, there is the State Museum at Majdanek.

    ANNUAL REPORT 2012 available to download

    A report on the activities of the State Museum at Majdanek in 2012 has already been published. Describing the most important events, investments and projects, it highlights the Museum’s basic directions and policy. On 48 pages, there is information about, among other things, commemoration of the 70th anniversary of “Operation Reinhard”, the newest books issued by the Museum and modernization of its infrastructure.

    On January 27, which is the anniversary of Auschwitz liberation, the world marks Holocaust Memorial Day. The State Museum at Majdanek also celebrated this day, particularly remembering the Jewish victims of the camp in Lublin.

    The Museum exhibition closed indefinitely

    The State Museum at Majdanek would like to inform, that because ofdifficult weather conditions, the historical exhibitionhas beenclosed for visitors indefinitely. We encourage all to postpone their visit in the Museum.


    In case of planning avisit during forthcoming days we ask for prior telephone contact with the Visitor Service Centre (tel: +48 81710 28 33) before the visit to acquire current information about the availability of the grounds and various historical objects in the Museum.

    The competition for the concept of the memorial in Sobibór

    On 18 January 2013, the State Museum at Majdanek announced the international competition on the architectural-landscape concept of the memorial on the area of the former German Nazi death camp in Sobibór.

    Meeting with dark episodes in the Polish history

    On December 19, the State Museum at Majdanek played host to a group of Ukrainian students – grant holders of the Semper Polonia Foundation and members of the Polish Youth Association in Zhytomyr. The aim of their study visit was to get familiar with the historical site and, in general, with dark episodes in the Polish history.
