The items uncovered in the course of archaeological research conducted from 1997 to 1999 at the site of the former German death camp in Bełżec perform the function of testimonies and witnesses of past events. These relics are characterized by extraordinary power of expression.

Looking for a way to continue our activities we decided to move our temporary exhibitions to the Internet. In the "Virtual Museum" tab you will find exhibitions in the Polish language version in pdf format. The exhibitions will be systematically added.

"Aktion Reinhardt" began on the night of 16/17 March 1942 with the liquidation of the ghetto in Podzamcze and the deportation of Jews to the death camp in Bełżec. It was a large-scale operation designed to exterminate the Jewish population, carried out as part of the plan for the so-called "final solution of the Jewish question" outlined by Nazi Germany.

On March 17, 1942, the first transports of Jews deported from the Lublin ghetto and Lvov arrived to the death camp in Bełżec. These deportations were the beginning of “Aktion Reinhardt” – a mass extermination of Jews in the General Government.

In the interests of the safety of employees, the State Museum at Majdanek will go completely into remote work from March 16, 2020. This means changing the way of contacting us.

On March 5th and 6th, ceremonies marking the European Day of the Righteous took place at the Museum and Memorial Site in Bełżec.

On March 3, the inaugural meeting of the new Council of the State Museum at Majdanek took place.

On February 17th, the State Museum at Majdanek together with the branch the Museum and Memorial Site in Bełżec organized a methodical training on extracurricular historical education in post-camp memorial sites. It was attended by 25 primary and secondary school teachers from the Zamość region.

On January 28, delegation from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington visited the Museum and Memorial Site in Belzec. Among the distinguished guests was director Sara J. Bloomfield, members of the Board with families, as well as a museum volunteer, survivor of the Holocaust, who was deported to the Auschwitz death camp in May 1944 from Hungary, Irene Weiss.

During the celebration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Museum and memorial Site in Bełżec commemorated the murdered Jews.

We join the celebration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day again this year. The Museum and Memorial Site in Bełżec invites to participate in the opening of an exhibition, historical workshops and a guided tour around the Museum on January 27.

We are presenting an unusual film about a special place – its past and present, the tragic fate of the German concentration camp and the obligations of the museum created on its territory to the next generations.

On December 5th, the Museum and Memorial Site in Bełżec hosted teachers and educators from Ukraine, who arrived in the course of their annual study visit organized by the Ukrainian Centre for Holocaust Studies in Kiev.
